Iron Ear is made by a very small studio, which means the person who reads your email is the person who fixes the bug. No ticket queue, no chatbot — just write to us.

Common questions
I can’t hear anything
Work down this list — it is almost always one of these:
- Check the ring/silent switch on the side of the phone. Iron Ear is built to sound even with silent mode on, but a Focus mode or a stuck switch can still get in the way.
- Turn the volume up with the physical buttons while Iron Ear is on screen, so you are adjusting media volume rather than ringer volume.
- Check where the audio is going. If a Bluetooth speaker, AirPods or a car stereo are connected, the sound is going there. Open Control Centre and switch output back to iPhone.
- If you have a call, a voice memo or another audio app running, close it and come back.
Still silent? Email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.
Does it work offline?
Yes — entirely. Every trainer, every fretboard, the chord library, the circle of fifths and the tuner all run on the device. Iron Ear has no networking code in it, so airplane mode, a dead hotel Wi-Fi or the middle of a tunnel change nothing at all.
Why does Iron Ear ask for the microphone?
Only for the tuner. iOS asks the first time you open it; the audio is analysed on the phone in real time to read your pitch and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. If you say no, everything except the tuner still works — you can change your mind later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, and only on your device. Scores, streaks, per-trainer stats and your settings (tuning, key, difficulty, tempo, flats preference) are written to the phone’s own storage. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere for it to go.
That has one consequence worth knowing: deleting Iron Ear deletes your stats along with it, and they are not recoverable. There is no backup on our side because we never had a copy.
How do I reset my stats?
Open the gear icon in the app header to reach Settings, then choose Reset all stats. It clears your score, streak and per-trainer history in one go and asks you to confirm first. Your settings are left alone.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Iron Ear is designed portrait-first for iPhone, and it also runs on iPad in compatibility mode. There is no Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV or Android version.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us — we never see your payment details and have no way to issue one. Apple explains how to request a refund here: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple.
If the reason for the refund is something we could fix, we would genuinely like to hear about it first.
I have a feature request
Send it to support@iron-ear.com. Requests that come with a sentence about how you practise are the ones that tend to get built — knowing why you want a thing shapes it far more than knowing what it is.
Is there a subscription, or in-app purchases?
No. Iron Ear is $0.99 once, and that is the entire commercial relationship. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no unlockable tiers, no ads, and no account to create. Updates are included.
